Tripp Copley is here!!

We’re home!!!!! After a LOOOOOONNNGGGG week at Hartford Hospital the Copley Family is finally home!! Woo!Hoo! Mommy was released on Wed. afternoon but baby was kept for observation, so needless to say we were not going anywhere without our son. We were very lucky and the nursing staff allowed us to stay in our room (for free) until they needed it and then they moved us to a tini tiny room with a pull out couch for the last night due to an abundance of preggos coming in to have babies. They kept Tripp because he is tiny, underweight, 2 weeks early and jaundice. They were closely monitoring his billireuben levels…poor baby has had so many blood tests done!!! He spent a night under the lights and we were feeding him and pumping every hour to get his weight up!!! (My boobs were killing me!!!)

To back track…the delivery was fast and furious. Bob and I went to see the movie 300. (The new Frank Miller movie – same author as Sin City – full of buff sexy barbarian men in loin clothes! Woot! The movie is about the 300 Spartans who stood up to the Persian Empire…a pretty bloody battle movie…but fantastic…and very much about a society of warrior men and their sons.) We joked about how this would be our last movie date for a long time..little did we know. I started having mild contractions in the theatre, but did not know they were contractions…I thought I had gas pains! When we got home the contractions were definitely not gas anymore and they went from once in a while to every 6 minutes, 4 minutes, 3 minutes within 3 hours! We made it to the hospital by 10:30pm and I was admitted immediately at 5 cm dilated! By 1 am I caved in and got the epidural….my contractions became constant and with no recovery time in between I just couldn’t handle the pain. They ended up giving me a shot to stop or slow down the contractions because Trip was in Fetal Distress. His umbilical cord was short so every time I had a contraction his heart rate and blood pressure would go down. I started pushing at 2:30 am and Tripp was born at 2:59 am. I was one push away from a C-section, the doctor had ordered the room to be prepped and ready for an emergency CS…it got scary. The actual delivery was quite the out of body experience. The doctor was digging in down there to try to get him out, (like in the scene from City Slickers when Billy Crystal delivers the cow) and I kept thinking Thank god I can’t feel this!!! Tripp was a vacuum extraction, they had to get him out fast, and I swear the doctor had his leg up on the table and was bitting his bottom lip from pulling so hard. In fact one time the vacuum slipped and popped off which sent the doctor flying a good 2 steps back!

Thank god Bob was there! He did an awesome job, and when Tripp’s head came out he light up and was sooo excited. (I’ve never seen Bob look so happy before…it was awesome) Bob is such the proud poppa! He is constantly saying “My Son” like the warriors is the movie ….we’ve even joked that if Tripp was not already named he would be Leonidace, the king of the Spartans.
